Partnership Activities for 2010-11

Green Economy in Hamilton

This project will document the Green Economy in Hamilton.  It will identify and profile sectors and develop occupational profiles.  Through this research we hope to assist job seekers and new labour market entrants to understand what a 'green job' is and where it is found.  Research will highlight the skill sets required.  Employers will be engaged by means of a survey.  A report will document our research and a community event will launch this report.

HTAB completed research into current and projected skills requirements in Hamilton but the report notes that the skills requirement documented do not take into account the growth that may result from successful implementation of the City's Ec. Dev. strategy.  This project will define the demand.

Key partners: City of Hamilton, Economic Development Department; Niagara Workforce Planning Board; Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie.

Skilled Trades Employer Forum

In early December 2010 HTAB will host a lunch forum for up to 150 skilled trades employers from all trades sub-sectors at Mohawk College's STARRT Campus.  The event will provide employer participants with up-to-date apprenticeship and skilled trades information, including information on CAF, Ontario College of Trades and updates on employer incentives.  An employer guide with the latest information on accessing hiring incentives and tax credits will be developed and follow up will be conducted to determine the impact of the event.
